Alamance County Crime News

A crime story is a starting point. It is not a file. Reporters choose what to cover, and the sheriff's office releases only selected events. So news never shows the full custody picture. A booking photo in an article may come from an agency or a records request. For the real answer, gather the name, the agency, and the date. Then pull the official booking record and the court file. That's where the outcome lives.

Where Alamance Crime News Appears

Local reporting starts with the Alamance News courts and crime section, the county's strongest dedicated crime beat. It covers arrests and charges, and it sometimes prints booking photos in context. The other local daily is The Times-News. It has no standing mugshot page. For a regional lens, WXII 12 broadcasts Alamance arrest stories from its Piedmont desk.

Official channels play different roles. The ACSO press-release archive posts chosen agency statements. Burlington keeps a media-release archive. Graham publishes weekly crime data with incident dates, times, and NIBRS descriptions. Mebane's police records section handles reports and criminal complaints. None of these is a daily county booking feed.

Then come the third-party sites: Busted Newspaper, RecentlyBooked, Mugshots.com, and the North Carolina page at Arrests.org. Mugshots.zone has no county section at all. Treat these as leads only. They recycle stale material, skip corrections, and mix records. Check ACSO, the city police, or the courts before trusting them.

How Arrest Photos Reach News

North Carolina's § 132-1.4 puts photographs inside criminal-investigation information. The same statute spells out what arrest details are public and where disclosure stops. Translation: no photo is automatic. ACSO might issue a press release, answer a records request, or hold material back for reasons like a juvenile, a victim, a witness, an open investigation, fair-trial concerns, or a court order.

Agency policy allows selective releases to news media. That's why one serious incident comes with a photo while a routine booking gets nothing. A city police release works the same way. It describes an arrest without handing over the whole booking file.

When an article names someone as arrested, note the source agency and the publication date. A release photo says nothing about current custody. Old images linger in archives long after charges shift. For the live answer, use the roster, the records custodian, and the court file. Each carries a piece.

From a News Story to the Record

A story is a lead, nothing else. The record chain fills in the dates and status a short article skips.

  1. Copy the person’s full name, arresting agency, charge wording, and story date.
  2. Search the ACSO P2C roster and county booking sources for a matching name, arrest date, and booking agency.
  3. If the person is not on the roster, do not conclude that no arrest occurred. The person may have been released, the entry may not yet be visible, or a different agency may hold the record.
  4. Ask ACSO in writing for the specific booking record or photo, or ask the city police records unit for the incident report.
  5. Use the official Alamance court page, portal, and criminal calendars to locate later case events.
  6. Read the final disposition before describing what happened. A calendar date or news charge is not a conviction.

Covering a booking is not the same as deciding a case. The disposition is where the legal outcome lives.

For stories out of Burlington, Mebane, or Graham, find the booking agency first. The city page may hold the incident report. ACSO holds the county custody record. The county-wide breakdown on Alamance County Busted Mugshots walks through the roster, records requests, DAC, and federal fallback paths.

Selected Releases, Not a Daily Blotter

ACSO's release archive gives solid official context, but it chooses what to publish. Consider a January 2025 release on kidnapping and armed-robbery charges. It named adults, listed charges, published photographs, and offered a tip line, while also referencing a juvenile, which belongs under the release's own rules rather than as general booking fact.

Read the dated ACSO release with its status and safety instructions in view. It cannot tell you who sits in jail right now. P2C and the detention center cover current custody; the courts handle later results.

That split guards against a common error. News highlights the dramatic case. The roster logs custody. Keep them straight.

City Crime Reporting in Alamance

Burlington's police media archive links city arrests to public statements. Its Records Section and JustFOIA route handle formal requests. Graham's weekly crime reports give incident-level detail but no bookings. Mebane's records section takes reports and complaints, with a three-to-five-business-day reference for finishing an incident report. That is not a promise of a booking photo.

For city-by-city detail, use the Burlington, Mebane, or Graham page. City borders and booking agencies don't always line up. A Mebane arrest might fall on the Alamance or Orange side of town. The city name alone won't settle custody.

A useful article names its agency and publication date. Those details help connect a story to the correct county or city custodian and keep a selected news item from being mistaken for a complete arrest log.
